ARTIST STATEMENT

Investigating alternate perspectives is a common thread within Norah’s work. She encapsulates both micro and macro viewpoints within each painting, in order to explore relationships to the space we occupy.

Her work involves thin glazes of paint that are built over time to create a glossy surface. The production of the work can be seen from the sides, where the drips of paint express the layering. The depth of the piece gives an elemental quality similar to a slab of rock taken from a quarry. At the same time, the movement within the painting forms a divergence of illusions between aerial and abstracted references.

By playing with various perspectives, there’s interplay of transparency and abstraction, creating atmospheric colour fields.
